Link Proxy

Description

Link Proxy encrypts external links in your XenForo content and creates a redirect page for those links. When a visitor clicks an encrypted link, they first see the redirect page on your site. From there, they can either wait for automatic navigation or click a link to continue, depending on your settings.

You can customize which links are not affected by the encryption. Those links stay as normal direct links and do not use the redirect page. You can also set the time before the redirect page automatically sends the visitor to the external destination. If you prefer, you can turn off auto-navigation completely. Visitors then stay on the redirect page until they choose to continue.

Supported content types

Link Proxy works with these content types:

  • XF: Post
  • XF: ProfilePost
  • XFRM: ResourceUpdate
  • XFMG: Album
  • XFMG: Media

This includes forum posts, profile posts, resource updates, and media gallery albums and media items. The add-on gives you control over how external links are presented to your visitors.

It sends external links through a warning page before visitors leave your forum. The page is titled "Please be careful..." and shows the address they are going to plus a link back to the original content, then continues automatically or waits for a click. Links to your own forum are never sent through this page. The add-on is free and works on XenForo 2.2 and newer.

It can handle XF:Post, XF:ProfilePost, XFRM:ResourceUpdate, XFMG:Album and XFMG:Media, and all of them are ticked by default. The ResourceUpdate type needs XenForo Resource Manager, and the two media types need XenForo Media Gallery. Links elsewhere, such as signatures or custom profile fields, are left as normal links. You can turn each type on or off under Setup > Options > D.C Style - Link Proxy.

Yes. Enable automatic redirection is on by default and sends visitors on after a set wait, which is three seconds by default. Turn it off to make them click Continue instead, and change Auto redirection time if you want a longer or shorter wait. Requiring a click is safer for communities where members are often targeted by scam links.
